Great food and service! Amazing atmosphere!
Great food! Great atmosphere! Was highly recommended and did not disappoint.
Classic italian dinner with good service and generous portions
If there was 0 stars - I would give it for this restaurant....my husband specifically ordered a bottle of wine that had Sangiovese Cabernet Franc - it was supposedly a Bordeaux for $150 - every time the Sommelier poured the wine, he would say 'your Sangiovese Bordeaux'....when we got the bill, they had charged $1500/bottle - we had 3 bottles...he said we'd ordered the Merlot (which was right below the $150 bottle on the menu) - we disputed it and the Sommelier was very aggressive but we didn't want to make more of a scene with our guests and spoil the night, so we are disputing it with American Express - if you read other reviews, you will see others were RIPPED OFF too....DO NOT SUPPORT THIS RESTAURANT!!!
Very packed but great food
90$ for 4 drinks. Very salty food. Might what is used to be.
Great secret spot with fabulous, legitimate Italian food. I speak Italian so I had a lot of fun messing around with the servers. Absolutely worth the splurge! I can't wait to go back when I'm next in the city.
Beautiful place with wonderful people. Best italian restaurant in new york. Johnny is an amazing host.
I thought the pasta here was fantastic! The truffle pasta was out of this world! The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was very old school and laid back! I would most definitely think this place would be a great place to take your in laws or parents too since it’s quieter than other restaurants in nyc. I think the only issue is the restroom is upstairs and kind of a difficult staircase! But overall, I really enjoyed it and will return! Prices are a little high!
Great food, but not great customer service. Had a reservation for tonight and arrived to find restaurant closed and they didn’t bother to call and tell us.
True Italian charm from the the moment you walk in. from the seafood to the pasta dishes everything is amazing. Staff also is very Italian charm and very knowledgeable of the menu and helpful for recommendations. if you're looking for Italian look no further this is the place.
Had a great experience here. Attentive service, delicious food, everything was perfect. Yes, it is small and busy. We didn't even look at the menu. We spoke with our waiter, talked about what we liked and the food started coming out. Would highly recommend early reservation around 630p. Enjoy.
Oh! The service! Don't even bother with a menu, ask and you shall receive! And the food....excellent, best clams casino ever; fresh seafood and homemade pastas are excellent...do NOT forget to save room for their absolutely amazing cheesecake! Brava!
The waiters are very attentive, the food was good and the tomatoes they used was literally CANDY 😄
Stellar foodWas very busy and we had to wait a bit
unfortunately my experience with my family at this restaurant was horrible. Not only they over charged for their dishes The food was decent to say the least but customer service/attention to the client was a mess. We would never come back here and I will make sure to spread the word about our experience at this restaurant. It's sad to know how aggressive they’re
Food and service was fantastic.
Had a great meal here on a Friday night, the restaurant is small and was packed but the service was terrific. We ordered three apps for 4 people and they split them all up onto separate plates before bringing them out. For the mains the veal parm was great and side pastas were all very good. It’s a bit pricy but about what you’d expect from a place like this. My only compliant was the specials list was too long I could hardly remember them
Best Italian!
This restaurant is hands-down one of the best in New York City. It's the first place we go after we land everytime we come to NYC. Giuseppe took excellent care of us as usual.
Great food and atmosphere. The service is attentive and friendly, and the food and drinks were absolutely delicious. I felt at home in this cozy Italian restaurant. I cannot wait to go back!
Food was very good. But atmosphere is cramped; basement. Our experience ended in a bad way. First they charged us $45 for Johnny Black in error. Then after running charge card I saw that they charged me $65 for a club soda instead of $6.50. The manager Luigi said I’m sorry. I said you should take the $100 overcharge and instead of sorry apply it to the bill or tip the waiters. He refused. And I heard the waiter who made the mistake got fired. If you go check your bill. Also they need to print their bills. Cannot read it
5 stars toward the food ðŸ‘fresh, delicious, the aroma of the dishes feels like a old Italian lady singing & cooking for her guests, trying to get the best ingredients and prepares the meal with love.3 stars ( wine list needs a boost) Atmosphere cool 👠small tables a little crowded but will go again.
Really really good... The cioppino like soup was excellent!
The service and attention to detail of Scalonatella's is second to none. You are treated like family. The food is even more amazing than the service. If you want ro have a fantastic eating event or need to impress someone, bring them here. You will not be disappointed. I promise! The lamb and salmon were great.
best food service
Outrageous Bolognese sauce. Crazy.
Very unique dining experience, more so than other Italian restaraunts as it is very tight and underground (be ready for stone walls and shorter ceilings). Food portions were perfect and tasted delicious. Menu has fewer options than expected but the specials added options. Only issue about the chef specials is that I couldn't understand the waiter AT ALL. It lasted 3 minutes no joke) AND when we did not order an item from his specials speech he was clearly unhappy about it. Overall staff is slightly aggressive but I guess that is what old school Italian restaraunts are. Cool spot and would recommend. Would give 4.5 if I could, but gross bathroom rounds it down.
Best Italian restaurant in North America
I called in to schedule a reservation on 9/25 for 5 people at noon for 9/26. It took 3 people to on the other line to lock in the actual reservation and they confirmed my reservation on the phone. I show up at 11:55 on 9/26 and the door is closed, the restaurant isn't picking up and I had to stand outside like an idiot with 4 clients, all of whom I had never met before. I called and called and nobody picked up. In all my years of going to restaurants this was a first, never going back.
Good food , pricey
I had high expectations for this restaurant; unfortunately my experience with my family at this restaurant was horrible. Not only they over charged for their dishes but the waiter who supposedly has over 20 years living in NY couldn't even speak decent English to understand the specials of the day. They screw up my wife food and when it finally came correctly we were all done eating and with no motivation or whatsoever for my wife to start eating her meal. The food was decent to say the least but customer service/attention to the client was a mess. We would never come back here and I will make sure to spread the word about our experience at this restaurant. It's sad to know that we all felt the same way and we were 5 people eating.
Eating here is quite the experience. The food is genuinely fantastic and the dark grotto of a dining room is always bustling with entertaining waiters and activity, but I would not give it five stars seeing as it is a bit too loud, crowded, expensive, and rushed for my taste.
Service is on point and food is amazing!!
Excellent food and service, but very pricy.
Finest Italian in the city, staff is wonderful and a great dining experience. Fish , veal chops, and ravioli are outstanding. Can skip dessert. Get ready to pay, your bill will include plugs of 60 dollars and you won't be able to figure it out. Just pay it and enjoy it, wonderful restaurant.
Not cheap. Had previously said that this is one of the best Italian restaurants I had ever been to, until my last meal, where just about everything we had was just nothing special while prices stayed in that 'special' range. Great service, unrushed. Tiny little place adds to the charm. But seems to have fallen a notch.
The service was impeccable along with the food and wine. Anytime a ristaronte is packed to capacity on a Tuesday night and full of laughter, is a good sign of things to come. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the lobster linguine very much so. Also the lamb chops were cooked to perfection. Gracie!
Outstanding. Tremendous staff and service in a cozy downstairs spot. Dimly lit and nicely decorated
Loved it. Great food. Perfect NY experience!
Great food, good people, owners are sweethearts!!! Very authentic food!!! Always packed!!
Great Italian food. Always friendly and welcoming staff. Love the atmosphere. My favorite dish is Chicken Parmigiana. You can not go wrong with other choices on the menu. This place is incredible!
Excellent food and wonderful service.Such a great experience
EXTREMELY rude staff. No respect for customers. The woman who takes reservations is the absolute worst. Made me feel like I was completely inconveniencing her to want to make a reservation. Isn't that what you are paid for? To take reservations? I will never give my money to that place.
For the quality of the food I would give a 10 star but the rudeness of the staff, the hour and a half wait after a reservation was CONFIRMED TWICE, and for the condescending attitude of the server when I ordered off the menu, the house ravioli, I'm forced to give it a 3. Would I go back? Sure!!! The food is worth it but I would book dinner for 9:30 instead of 8pm. And I would, as I was advised by a frequent visitor to New York, to let the waiter and chef be creative with what to cook in order to engage their creative sensibilities. Let me emphasize though, their food is AWESOME!
First time visitor to this highly recommended restaurant. Not the type of place I'd recommend for a quiet intimate evening of dining. Service was overly attentive removing plates, glasses & silverware before we were done. Food was delicious, nicely prepared and presented. Most disturbing was the waiters adding to the order. My wife and I wanted to share the order of rack of lamb after what I thought was a shared order of pasta and turned out to be a double order (by the way, the pasta was amazing). We were charged for 2 orders of rack of lamb, after clearly ordering only 1 to share. I am glad we experienced this eatery, but I will never return to this NY scam
Atmosphere is 80's cocaine. Food was decent, they'll make whatever you want to.
Perfect place if you're craving some Italian food! They serve the best Italian food, place is magnificent, food plating is superb with great customer service! Thank you Scalinatella for having us!
Upscale Italian on the Upper East Side. Very attentive service at the bar and in the Dining room.
This is our go-to favorite Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. Great atmosphere, entertaining and quality waiters, terrific food. It's aways crowded, but unlike many popular Italian restaurants in the area, they don't shoehorn people in, even though they could prob add more tables.Excellent place for fun atmosphere and good food.
